Packages for the first matchday of the Champions League 2025-26

The traditional Champions League group stage has officially ended. In its place, a single league (Swiss system) has been introduced: 36 teams participate in a single ranking. Each team faces 8 different opponents, with 4 home matches and 4 away matches.

The opponents are drawn from four performance pots, with two matches against teams from each pot.

This new format was chosen to make the Champions League more exciting. Teams will face a greater variety of opponents, with fewer national restrictions, while avoiding more than two clashes between teams from the same country.

The Swiss system was introduced in the previous edition of the Champions League, becoming the new official format thanks to its success, with some improvements to the regulations.
